He taught sport management, history, philosophy, coaching theory, and physical activity classes. He gave administrative service to the Department of Physical Education and the Athletics Program. His research interests were in the areas of sport management, sport history and philosophy.
Gary says that community service has always been his hobby. He was a member of the board of Lethbridge School District #51 for fifteen years, four years as Chair. He was the Chair of Sport for the 1975 Canada Winter Games and the Board Chair for the 1996 Alberta Winter Games. Gary is current Chair of a civic committee delivering community service to the homeless and those in the need of affordable housing, the Lethbridge Sport Council, and the Alberta Sport Development Centre-Southwest.
Gary and Marian have raised four children who are also contributing significantly to their communities.
Travis Grindle Travis came to Lethbridge from Creston, BC in 1992 to attend the U of L. He joined the Pronghorn Men’s Basketball coaching staff in the fall of 1994 and served with the team until 1998. His passion for basketball took him to Winnipeg where he worked for the minor league International Basketball Association as the League Coordinator for two seasons, where he oversaw many aspects of the league’s operations. He moved to Saskatoon to take a Director of Basketball Operations role with the Saskatchewan Hawks of the same league in 2000.
He accepted a position as Athletics Coordinator at his Alma Mater, the University of Lethbridge in 2001 and joined the Lethbridge Sports Bid Committee in 2003. In 2008, Travis was appointed Executive Director of the Alberta Sport Development Centre Southwest.
Travis and his wife Tara have two children, Payton (7) and Nolen (5). Travis’s passion for all sport is apparent in everything he does. Having participated on the Sport Policy steering committee for the City of Lethbridge, he is now serving as Vice Chair of the Lethbridge Sport Council and is on the advisory committee for the new City of Lethbridge twin ice facility presently in the planning stages. Travis continues to be excited to help plot the future direction of Sport in Lethbridge and Southern Alberta.

Kevin Kvame
Kevin Kvame took over the Chair of the Lethbridge Sports Bid Committee in late 2008 when Gary Bowie left the post after a decade plus of service to become the Chair of the Lethbridge Sports Council. Kevin’s background in sports goes back over 25 plus years. Baseball is his first love and that continues to this day as he holds several roles in the sport including being the President and General Manager of the Lethbridge Bulls Baseball Club. He also holds roles provincially and nationally in the sport and believes in giving back to the community through volunteerism. Kevin has lived in Southern Alberta his entire life and believes that we are truly blessed to live in arguably the best place on the planet. Kevin finds time to continue to coach baseball each year (Spitz Canadians Baseball Team) and pass on some of his passion for the game to our local athletes.
Kevin has been fortunate to attend several of the recent Alberta Summer Games plus the 2001 Canada Summer Games. He is acutely aware of the dedication and community drive that is needed to host the 2012 Alberta Games awarded to Lethbridge. He is equally excited about our recent successes in being awarded the 2011 Football Canada Cup and the Junior Little League Canadian Championships for 2010 through 2014. As a member of the Sports Bid Committee and the Lethbridge Sport Council, Kevin is excited about these opportunities and knows we have a diverse and talented group to take on this and other challenges in the months and years ahead.
